Following yesterday’s news that Call of Duty Ghosts will be launching in November, Activision have gone ahead and officially announced the next in the popular shooter franchise, which will be developed by series vets (Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3) Infinity Ward. You can see the reveal trailer below.
The trailer, also available on the title’s newly launched site indicates we’ll be getting the usual releases of PS3. Xbox 360 and PC, as well as next-gen releases. The first glimpse of the game is due to be shown at Microsoft’s next generation launch event on May 21st, where many expect they will announce the next Xbox console.
There was also rumours that Ghosts will run on a whole new engine, this has been confirmed by Activision CEO, Eric Hershberg.
Infinity Ward set the gold standard for first-person action for a generation, and they’re going to do it again with Call of Duty: Ghosts..Ghosts delivers an all-new story, all-new characters, an all-new Call of Duty world, all powered by a next generation Call of Duty engine, which is a leap forward for the franchise. Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of Call of Duty worthy of the world’s greatest fans.
Mark Rubin, executive producer of Infinity Ward has also stated.
Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels…We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.
All sounds very promising, and a big refresh is exactly what the series needs, and it only makes sense that developers of Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward, are the ones that bring the change, they, after all, helped redifine the genre with the first Modern Warfare title.
More news on the title should hit at the end of May.
