In a new blog post over at StarWars.com, J.W. Rinzler, author of ‘The Making of Star Wars’, has followed up the previous announcement that Dark Horse will be making a new Star Wars comic, titled ‘The Star Wars’, with a project update. The comic, as has been previously announced, will be based on George Lucas’ original rough-draft script for Star Wars, which involved the adventures of one ‘Luke Starkiller’.
Over on the blog, Rinzler discusses where they’re up to now in production of the 8 issue comic. Issue #1 has complete artwork and is in the process of being coloured, with issue #2 also well under way. You can see a sketch above of the character ‘Montross’ who didn’t make it the final Star Wars script but went through many different guises in George Lucas’ 1974 original.
Rinzler also confirms there will be variant cover’s which is good news for collectors. Issue #1 will debut in September, so look out for more information as it becomes available.
It sounds like it’s going to be fun even if it’s just as a ‘what might have been…’. Seeing Lucas’ original take on Luke Skywalker and what would eventually become ‘A New Hope’ will be great and will serve as another tantalising reminder that we’re only a couple of years away from a J.J. Abrams fueled Star Wars Episode VII.
