Christopher Abbot, who plays Charlie on hit show GIRLS is reportedly leaving the programme, according to the New York Post.
A falling out with series creator and writer Lena Dunham is cited as the reasoning.
They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena,
a source told the NYP.
He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.
Christopher Abbott’s rep confirmed his departure from the Judd Apatow produced hit, saying:
[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire ‘Girls’ cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.
It’ll be interesting to see how they write him out, or indeed if he had already filmed any scenes. Since it seemed Marnie and him had reconciled, he was obviously due to be a bigger part. I can’t say this seems like a huge loss to the show. He was never a major character and some of the funniest and more dramatic scenes always come from Haannah (Lena Dunham), Adam (Adam Driver) or Jessa (Jemima Kirke). The latter of which was notably absent the last few episodes after leaving Hannah in the lurch.
Girl’s will likely return early next year.
