Ang Lee to direct pilot of ‘Tyrant’

Following in the footsteps of another great director, Martin Scorsese (who directed the opening episode of 1920’s gangster hit, Boardwalk Empire), the Life of Pi Oscar-Winner is taking on the small screen for a proposed series called Tryant to be shown on FX.

Tyrant will tell the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent middle eastern nation.

It is being written and produced by Homeland vets Gideon Raff and Howard Gordon as well as writer-producer Craig Wright, responsible for Six Feet Under and Lost, amongst others.

Whilst i’m sure this opening episode may well be eye catching, let’s hope it can replicate the success of Boardwalk Empire which continued the standard of excellence Scorsese left behind.
